Ivory Coast: Walé Medical Social Center

Local Partner: Walé Medical Social Center

Recipients: 50 pregnant women and 50 sick children

Harambee’s contribution:  $8,640

Following a comprehensive screening at the Walé Medical Social Center that revealed a high sickle cell prevalence of nearly 15%, this project was launched to provide life-saving medical intervention in the Dioulabougou neighborhood of Yamoussoukro. Sickle cell disease remains a significant cause of maternal and infant mortality in Ivory Coast, yet many families lack the resources for early diagnosis and specialized care. This initiative focuses on the critical intersection of maternal and pediatric health by providing targeted treatment and monitoring for 50 pregnant women and 50 children suffering from the disease. By funding specialized medical follow-ups, essential medications, and crisis management, the project aims to stabilize these vulnerable patients, preventing the severe complications and pain crises that often characterize this condition.

Activity: Reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with sickle cell disease through early detection and specialized medical care for mothers and children, ensuring improved health outcomes and a better quality of life for families in underserved communities.
