"Africa's Destiny:" A Three-Day Pan-African Conference

This past October, Harambee was proud to hold a three-day Pan-African conference hosted at Strathmore University in Nairobi. Alongside 250 delegates from 21 countries, we joined policymakers, business leaders, academics, NGOs, and students to explore how education, work, and social development can be reimagined for Africa’s future.

Key Takeaways from Nairobi

  • The conference’s theme, “Africa’s Destiny,” challenged us to think long-term. On Day 1, participants looked ahead to 2075, asking: What kind of Africa do we want to build?

  • Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor of Strathmore University, called BeDoCare a space to “refill your tanks, renew your energy, refresh your perspective, and recharge for the important work ahead.”

  • Dr. Julie Gichuru (ALADI) urged participants to “take ownership” of Africa’s narrative — to tell our own stories, rooted in dignity, innovation, and diversity.

  • Dr. Thulani Dlamini (CSIR) emphasized the need for sustainable innovation ecosystems where academia, government, and industry work in true partnership.

  • On Day 3, Prof. Luis Franceschi of the Commonwealth delivered a powerful call for justice and ethics: “Justice is the true purpose of law … when justice stands, innovation flourishes, jobs multiply, and trust becomes a renewable resource.”

  • The conference also marked the launch of the BeDoCare Hub, a new global platform to connect changemakers and support concrete collaboration across Africa.

At Harambee, we’re energized by the vision of BeDoCare — not just as a forum, but as a movement.

This gathering reinforced what we already believe deeply: sustainable development in Africa depends on integration — of heart and skill, of innovation and solidarity, of youth energy and institutional wisdom.

Thanks to the connections made in Nairobi, we’re more inspired than ever to support leadership, bridge-building, and impact-driven initiatives across the continent.
